I’ve been getting heaps of emails about how to get to the Saturnia hot springs. Since it’s our most popular attractions, I am happy to oblige:

by car:

If you have your own transport, it’s much easier to reach the hot springs. They’re located on the Strada Saturnia-Pitigliano. If you’re coming from either Manciano or Montemerano, you will drive past them. There is a sign just before the turn off. You’ll see heaps of cars parked on one side of the road. Just follow the road and there’s a massive free car park on your right. Don’t park on the road – you’ll will get a fine.

You’ll find the majestic gates to the Terme di Saturnia hotel just before the hot springs. A lot of people are confused by this, but just keep driving until the road curves to the right. The turn off is on that curve. If you see a petrol station, you’ve gone to far.

If you are trying to get to the Terme di Saturnia spa complex, it’s just after that petrol station on the right and down another dirt road. You can’t get in through those majestic gates.

by public transport:

The closest train station to the hot springs is Grosseto. You can get pretty regular services from almost all over Italy via Trenitalia and plan your trip on their website.

From here, you’ll need to catch a bus. Tiemme is our local bus company. Their website is only in Italian (yay!) and really hard to use. The 41/P goes to Manciano. You can catch it from outside the train station. Here is a link to the timetable – this bus doesn’t run on Sundays! You can also catch the 8/G.

Once you arrive in Manciano, stay at the bus stop and catch the 17/P and get off at Saturnia Terme. Here’s a link to the timetable – this bus doesn’t run on Sundays!

You can also catch the bus to Manciano from the Orbetello train station.

It’s a pain in the butt, but it’s worth it. The trip from Grosseto to Manciano takes 70 minutes and costs €6.50. To the hot springs is another half an hour and costs €1. Be sure to plan your return trip as there aren’t a lot of services and you could end up stranded.

Remember to buy your ticket from tabaccherie or the train station before you catch the bus. You can buy a ticket on the bus, but it costs more and they can kick you off if you don’t have the exact amount.
