This guest post is from a fellow Maremma-phile and UK travel agent. She shares her favourite places in the region (Pitigliano is one of them, of course!) and her love of the local seafood.
If you are looking for a romantic break, nothing compares to the Tuscan Maremma. But you don’t need to break the bank to enjoy a wonderful holiday. Holiday Hypermarket provides value for money trips to Tuscany and many other regions across the globe.
Maremma is the ideal place to enjoy a quiet break with your partner. You can go for long walks through the countryside, taking in the dramatic changes in the landscape.
The northern part of Maremma, known as the Fiora and Albegna Valleys, is full of beautiful hilltop towns. Picturesque places like Pitigliano and Roccastrada are wonderful for a day trip or a weekend away.
The Grosseto region is on the coast, so you can visit lots of great seafood restaurants. Some of Tuscany’s best seafood can be found in Grosseto, especially if you head for the Marina di Grosseto.
You’ll also find some wonderful sandy beaches along the coastline. There are few things more romantic than having a picnic on the beach with your partner, especially with the beautiful Tuscan sunset as your background.
If you’e more interested in the history of the region, you should visit the Colline Metallifere. This is the industrial heart of Maremma. You can see mines, some of which are centuries old and used to mine zinc and silver. Massa Marittima is the perfect place to shop for souvenirs. If you’re looking for some beautiful jewellery, this is the place to visit.
As for when you should visit the Maremma, I’d recommend autumn, and that’s just not because it’s currently autumn!
The climate is a wonderful break from Britain and the changing colours of the leaves enhance the beauty of the Tuscan countryside.
Whether you are planning a quick Autumn break or a long, romantic holiday away, you do not need to spend too much. Check the for the best deals available and you will be able to enjoy a relaxing Tuscan break, and have plenty of spending money left over.
