Casa Rossa Ximenese

Named after the architect who designed it, Casa Rossa Ximenese was commissioned by the Grand Duke Leopoldo of Lorena in 1767 and earned the nickname “Casa Rossa” (Red House) thanks to its red-stained facade and red roof.

Today it’s home to Castiglione della Pescaia’Museo Multimediale (Multimedia Museum). Inside the museum is a multimedia centre that streams live images from video cameras hidden in the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve, which surrounds the building.

For researchers, the streamed footage is an untainted and all-access peek into the reserve’s unique ecosystem. For visitors, it’s a chance to admire every angle of the reserve without disturbing the beautiful flora and fauna.
